Switch Investor Names on an Investment

We have an investment that has two names listed as the owners. We now need to switch the primary - how can we do that?

There are circumstances that could require the switching of account names on investments. For example, one of the account holders is now deceased, or the investments were divided up due to divorce, to name a couple. Perhaps a child has now become an adult, and the parent wishes to transfer the investment into the child's name. For whatever reason, it is relatively simple to transfer an investment.

First, make the necessary Account changes. For example, you may wish to make the secondary account the Primary, if applicable. The account changes should be made first, before changing the active investments.

Once you are ready to do so, you will utilize the Reregister all Tax process to move the investment. This will move the investments from the old primary name into the new primary account holder's name.
