Overview of NA09

This application enables DDI-Connect to expand abbreviated city names, where necessary. During generation of mail-merge letters and forms, city names will expand automatically if the abbreviated city is found in this table and the complete name is saved in the Long name field. Each city file record also accommodates various census details of the city, such as geographic coordinates, average income, and population.


  • From the DDI Connect main menu, double-click Name/Address System
  • Double-click Setup
  • Double-click City Maintenance. You will see this screen:

To add or modify a city, you must first select the appropriate state from the State drop down. Click the drop down arrow and select the state that you wish to work with. The cities will then all populate:

Adding a City

To add a city, click the Add button on the toolbar. The fields will enable:

The following fields are available on this screen:


Field Description
City name Name of the city
Long name Full name of the city (minus abbreviations), if applicable. “Saint Louis,” for example, versus “St. Louis.” An abbreviated city name will expand to this full name during generation of mail-merge letters and forms
County code Four-character, alphanumeric code representing the county in which the selected city is located. County codes for each state are maintained in County File Maintenance
Coord NS North-south map coordinate (latitude) of the city. Loaded from U.S. Census data
Coord EW East-west map coordinate (longitude) of the city. Loaded from U.S. Census data
Place code Location code of the city, according to the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS), which was developed by the United States government as a unique identifier. Loaded from U.S. Census data
Population Estimated population of the city, if known. Display only
Pop % Change Percentage change in the city’s population over ten years. Loaded from U.S. Census data
Income Average, annual income of city residents, if known. Loaded from U.S. Census data


When you have finished entering the information, click Save to add the city.


Editing an Existing City

To edit an existing city, you can double-click on the City name or click it once to highlight and then click the Edit button on the toolbar. This will enable the fields for modification:

When you have finished making your modifications, click Save to retain the changes.
