Unfinished Document Error When Creating Journals

When I open the General Journal Entry screen, I am receiving a warning that says that there is an unfinished document in my work area. Why am I getting that message, and how can I find my work area?

What that message means is that there is an incomplete journal that someone created. To locate it, do the following:


  • Within General Journal Entry, open a batch
  • Click the "New" icon. You will see these options:

  • Select Edit Unfinished Document
  • Click OK on the screen that appears. The unfinished document now displays:

You can now finish the document and post as needed.
