Donor Segment Codes

Overview of FR002SET

Donor segment codes are four-character codes assigned automatically to donor records by Connect-FR. These alphanumeric codes categorize donor giving behaviors in four different areas: size of largest gift, recentness of latest gift, total number of gifts, and amount of latest gift.

Once a new gift is recorded, Connect-FR places the correct segment code on the donor record according to the parameters established in Donor Segment Code Setup. The segment code can then be used to inquire on all donor information with similar characteristics. Donor segment codes must be recalculated regularly to adjust giving timeframes and accommodate new gifts

NOTE: You must have the appropriate security to access the Donor Segment Code setup screens. If you are unable to access these screens, contact your organization's DDI Connect administrator or DDI Client Support for assistance.

Setting up Donor Segment Codes

• From the DDI-Connect menu, double-click Connect-FR

• Double-click FR System Setup

• Double-click Donor Segment Setup. You will see this screen:

NOTE: What you see on this screen will depend on what your organization has already established as the donor segment codes (if anything)

If you click a radio button, the screen will change to reflect the values for that position in the segment code:

For each position, you must establish the code value and the from/to range. It is important to note that for each position, the ranges cannot overlap. For example, you cannot have a largest single gift range from 0-10, and one from 10-20. It must be 0-9.99 and then 10-19.99, and so on.

It is also important to note that if you any changes to a donor segment code, you should also run the Recalculate Donor Segments process found under Connect-FR/Connect-FR Reports. NOTE: This process could take an extremely long time to run, depending on how many donors you have in the system

To add a new code to any of the positions, select the radio button that corresponds to the appropriate position, then click New. The fields on the bottom of the screen will now become activated:

Enter the code value and the other range information, based on the position you are modifying. For example, if you are entering a new code for Number of Years within which the last gift was given, you will enter the Months since last gift (from and to) and the number of gifts during that period (from and to)

When you have entered the information, click OK to save the changes.

Viewing a Donor's Segment Code

To view a donor's segment code, go to their Account and select the Donor tab. You will see this screen:

This donor segment code indicates that the donor has given at least one gift between $1,000-$2,499 within the last 0-12 months, and that the most recent gift was between $1,000-$2,499.
