Correct a Linked Address that has been Unlinked

We have a few constituent records where the address shared between related individuals is no longer linked. Now, even though they show the same address, it's not recognizing them as linked. How can we fix that?

Addresses can become unlinked if edits are made to a constituent and not applied to the linked records. You can re-link the address by performing the following steps:

  • Bring up the constituent record that you wish to re-link:

  • Click the Address tab for the address that should be linked, and click Edit. Make a minor modification, such as changing the street number:

  • Click Save
  • Click Edit again, and select the address you just modified. Change the street number back to the correct address:

  • Click Save. There will be a pause as the system scans the constituent database for duplicate addresses. You will then see this popup:

On this screen, you can see one (or more) possible duplicate addresses. To re-link the address, you will want to select the duplicate used by the PIN that you wish to link to. That information is displayed at the bottom of this popup when you click on an address:

Once you have identified the address you wish to link to, double-click it. There will be another brief pause as the system links the addresses.

The system will save the change, and bring you back to the constituent record. The addresses have now been re-linked. To test this, select the linked address, click Edit, and make a minor modification. When you click Save, you'll see this popup:

Click Cancel to avoid making changes, then click Undo on the Constituent record.
