Overview of FW09

The Chart of Accounts utilizes the segments you initially defined in the FundWriter setup screen. You must provide all segments when entering accounts, or the system will give you an error. There are two possible methods for building your account segments in DDI Connect.


Building Segments via Chart of Accounts Entry

You can enter each full account in Chart of Accounts Setup. The first time you enter a particular segment, the system allows you to provide a description. Future accounts containing that segment will automatically pull the description. For example:


You enter:

Note how the description populated for the Fund and Account, but shows "?" for the subaccount, detail and department fields. If you enter descriptions:

and save the new account, the next time you enter those values for subaccount, detail and department, the descriptions will automatically populate:

As you enter GL accounts, the segments will automatically be built each time you enter a new value.


G/L Account Segment Maintenance

The other option you have is to manually build all of the segments via the G/L Account Segment Maintenance screen. To access the screen:


  • From the DDI Connect main menu, double-click FundWriter
  • Double-click FundWriter Setup
  • Double-click C/L Account Segment Entry. You will see a screen similar to this one:

Any existing segment descriptions will appear on this screen, based on what option you have selected in the "Select segment to edit" area of the screen:

To add a new segment description, click the Add button on the toolbar. The segment field will now activate for you to edit:

Enter the segment code, then press Tab to populate the description:

Press Enter when you have finished, and the segment will now be added.


Repeat for each segment description you wish to add. When you have finished, if you want to add to the next segment, you would click the radio button to the left of the segment you wish to add to. This will bring up any existing segment descriptions, and allow you to add:

Repeat for each segment until you have added all of them. Click Exit when you have finished.
